"WHAT ARE WE BUT BEASTS OF BLOOD?" |
The beast was growing weary of the weather in the south. It was muggy at best, dry weather would have been better for the hound, for it would not make the air thick and his breathing clammy. Still, the terror marched on, his yellow eyes glowing even though the sun was still in the sky. It bled into the horizon, half of the great beyond darkening into shades of blue, but where the sun still touched the heavens it was painted in many reds and oranges, mixing with the clouds overhead to create quite a spectacular view. But as we know, Cruentus wasn't here for the view. No, the mutt was looking for a place to rest while he prepared to hunt. It... was time for his next meal, and although he was -often times regretfully- not a creature of bloodlust, he still recieved cravings. Food, in the form of flesh, was needed; and the conflicting beast needed nurishment. Whether it was in the form of a deer or another wolf, well, the longer he went on the more blurred that line became.
He had come to one of the more horrid regions he was sure. The scent of other wolves was barely there, as the same was for prey. The lumbering animal could even go as far as to say that prey here was completely driven off... perhaps there had been a fire here not too long ago? Or was it the summer heat that made the ground beneath his feet look so very barren? The dark lupine sighed, growing irritated with the landscape, and with himself. He shouldn't have left his shark toothed, murderous family without a plan. Without somewhere to go, without someone to do to. He could easily admit that this hadn't been his most intelligent plan. It was such a pity that he didn't think things through.
Still, he would have to manage with what he had. Which for now, was thankfully the cover of nightfall. He felt so much more comfortable now; and although his eyes glowed the rest of him was nearly invisible in the shadows. The cloud coverage was a plus as well; he blended in so easily with the barren ground. The slender man silently traveled the terrain, watching, waiting for any sort of movement, any signs of life. He was horridly hungry; and even growing a bit... lonely. Well, as lonely as a beast such as Cruentus became. It wasn't the company or the chatter that he so missed as it was a beating heart that wasn't his own.

Night time. This was the small brute's favorite time. His shadows were overwhelmingly powerful during the night and could hide him from even the most observant of wolves. Between his knowledge of stalking and his new shadow powers, he believed himself to be invincible! He wasn't, of course, but don't tell the little brute that.
With his nose to the ground and his ears perked, the small, dark wolf made his way through the land. He wasn't sure why he entered these barren lands. His paws just kind of carried him here on their own. If memory served him right, it was in these vary lands that he was actually born. That was, of course, before the horrid destruction that made them what they are now.
Small brute snorted a bit and stopped his trek to sit back on his haunches. He knew there was another nearby and he was rather curious as to who this unknown beast was. His scent wasn't familiar, not that Kain knew all the wolves that lived in these parts, but he didn't recognize it in the least. The small brute's pink tongue darted out to lick across his jaws. Maybe this unknown would be one to fight! There goes his hunger for blood again.
A wry grin curled over the brute's snout as he lay himself down, completely enveloped in shadows now, invisible to the naked eye. He didn't make a sound and the faint breeze that played across the lands blew his scent in the opposite direction of the unknown brute. The only way to find him now was either tripping over him or having him attack.

"WHAT ARE WE BUT BEASTS OF BLOOD?" |
The feeling that he was being watched came over him as the wind passed over his head, past sides, over his back. His fluffy tail and 'mane' seemed to curl along with the wind; and the beast froze. Turning those glowing yellow eyes behind him, he moved silently in the darkness, darting forward and lunging at the figure that he could just barely differentiate from the darkness. Each sound of his paws hitting the ground, the glint of his eyes in the nighttime sky, the sound of his breathing, and most importantly, the beating of his heart - gave him away. Cruentus had been trained to constantly stay on guard to these things.
Snapping at the other's face, shameless, it was an act of violence toward a stranger that the beast barely knew that he should have regretted. Speak! You von't get another chance bevore you become lunch to me." He said darkly, and his words danced with a sick honesty. No, he wasn't a cannibal, he wasn't a wolf eater, not usually but right now? He was starving and this boy here was the closest thing that he had gotten to a mean in too long. Claws dug into the ground, his tail's tip flicked dangerously behind him; the tantalizing smell of fresh meat could have made him droll. Damn it, had it really been so long since he hunted for himself? It was a pity really, there was no way he could fight with his full strength running on empty.
But his lovely acquaintance here did not need to know that.

The small brute lifted his head as the shadows he formed melted away. An eerie grin crawled over his snout as a terrifying look flashed behind those neon eyes of his, "Well now. This is unique. Very rare for someone to find me when I'm hiding like that." He said without the smallest inkling of fear. Either the small brute was mad or fearless, or maybe both.
Kain simply stood himself up and shook himself, tendrils of shadows and darkness flowing from his pitch fur as if he was made of the shadows, "Ya know...I've actually run in a pack with cannibalistic wolves before. It was rather fun to do so. One never knows when they may become food." He laughed. Yup. He had to be mad. Seemed the madness didn't bother him in the least though, then again, why would a mad wolf be bothered by his own madness, usually it's everyone else that's bothered.

So lunch had quite the mouth on him, no matter; he was still meat and that was what he wanted more than anything in the world. But this boy was peculiar, there was no fear in his eyes, it was as if the emotion had been stripped from his being. Cruentus glared at the strange wolf, ears back, his lips lifted into a silent snarl. Eerily sharp teeth glinted in the moonlight that had only just started to peek through the clouds. He felt almost insulted, that in response to his threat that the other had simply grinned. And what was this he spoke about, a pack of cannibals? What kept them from digging into each other? Although that really wasn't fair of him to think, as his family was a clan of assassins and they -just barely- managed to keep from slaughtering each other as time went on. "Interesting, you are quite the - peculiar wolf." It was all that he would say, but it was obvious that for now, this stranger would not become Cruentus's next meal. Slowly he fell away from his offensive posture and sighed as his stomach clenched. Hunger pangs, goddamn it.
"Does that mean that you vill roll over and vecome my next meal? Vecause vy all means... you never veally know." He chuckled, a dark airy sound. The beast was large, intimidating in ways, but also delicate in many others. His legs were skinny, his middle had an effeminate curve, and that tail! It seemed to be as long as the beast himself if not longer. Soulless yellow eyes stared at the boy, and he could have killed him right then and there. For his meat, for one, and also for his heart. Oh how it teased him, the beating of another heart. No matter how many he ate while they were still thrumming he could not feel his own... "Oh and vy the way? Your hiding does not mask your very presence. I could hear your footsteps, your breathing, your very heart - you are var vrom invisible."

The crazy little brute snickered and started to trot around the other, his nose twitching and his tail flicking. If one didn't know any better they'd think the small brute was no more then a pup! With one look into his eyes though, they could easily see otherwise.
After a thorough circling of the other, he sat back on his haunches and grinned that mad grin of his, "Roll over and become your meal? As if." He snorted with a roll of those very vibrant eyes of his, "Why don't ya just go hunt somethin? Or are your legs so skinny they can't carry ya fast enough to even catch a rabbit?" He teased. Such a cruel little thing he was, but did he care? No. He snorted again, "I could catch my own meals by the time I was just a few months old!" He crowed.
Yes Kain was peculiar. He had no fear, no cares. He was mad and powerful. He was also cocky as all get out as well.
Another laugh escaped him and he flicked his tail over the ground where he sat, "Haha! Your funny! Your the very first to manage to find me when I hide. I like you!" He proclaimed, his green eyes lighting up. What a whack job.

With a wavering look of annoyance Cruentus watched the other pace around him. Like a curious whelp, was there nothing that was below this bizzare male doing? The beast didn't speak though, letting him come to a stop and speak again. He say down and spoke with that wide, annoying grin on his face. It irked the blood stained beast, made the gargoyle want to rip it off his face, give him a good smack and leave him reeling. When the other snorted, rolling his eyes as if he was some crazy brat Cruentus snarled, sneering because he was absolutely pissed off by the action. "You veally vant to pick at my nerves you silly little boy." He hissed, his glowing eyes narrowed to slits. "I can hunt vor myself vool, I'm simply vaiting until the time is right. Ven von is hungry, they do not waste energy running to and fro just to vind something. No, they let their prey come to them." He was honestly starting to wish that he ate this one just a bit earlier. When he still had the element of surprise on his paws, when he could still leave the other with his head spinning because he didn't expect for anyone to jump him while slinking with the shadows the way he did.
"You like me? Oy, I should have eaten you ven I had the chance." He mumbled, feeling disappointed and quite hungry now... if he fought it wouldn't be to his best abilities; and Cruentus wasn't a wolf that did anything out of sheer desperation... when he could help it of course. Sighing, he stood back up, his tail raising the other boy's chin to look at him. "You... could do me a favor? Hunt vith me? Perhaps I vould not regret leaving your vlesh on your bone if you did."

The small brute's eye gave an odd little twitch at being called a little boy and an unnerving look passed over his face, "L-little......boy....?" He snarled softly and his whole body seemed to spasm as his dark fur almost seemed to melt off his form. What looked to be along the lines of black fire started to leak from his nose and eyes as his lips formed the words 'little boy' once again.
Seemed the small wolf was about to completely freak out, either that or fall apart at the seems. When that tail touched his chin, his jaws snapped and he moved with a speed that one wouldn't see in him with the way he acted. If his jaws managed to lock around that tail, he'd give an almighty jerk to try and pull the other brute off his feet. If not, he'd lunge for it again.
Those green eyes of the small black brute shown with a madness one wouldn't know he had unless they knew him well. Seemed he heard nothing after the words 'little boy'. Either that or they just didn't register with him as he continued to try and attack the older wolf, shadows and darkness leaking from every part of his form.

Oh so it was a fight that he wanted? It seemed the little man had reacted terribly to his... temporary pet name. "Vould little man suit you better?" Oh, such a shame really; but it wasn't Cruentus's fault that he padded around like a child. He was stronger than he looked, but the effeminate brute wasn't just going to fly around like he weighted absolutely nothing. When the other grabbed his long, extremely fluffy tail what was grabbed was mostly fur. Sighing, the blood stained lupine regretted letting himself slip into a more sane mindset if he was only going to be tugged around by the reigns of someone clearly not well. "Vell, peculiar or not, you've vecome quite annoying." He spat, glaring daggers at the strange wolf that had just become his opponent opposed to a conversational stranger. I should have eaten you while I had the chance.
His tail was more than long enough to give him room to snap back; his jaws reaching for this little wolf's neck. Starting a riot wasn't something that Cruentus was not used to; it was finishing it without a smidgen of food within his body that was difficult. Still, he wouldn't be tugged around by anyone. He was a trained assassin, and heaven forbid if he start truly acting that way. "Von chance to let me go." Or else he would regret it, oh the beast would make sure that he wished he hadn't met him at all. White teeth gleamed in the light, and although he had not the jagged teeth that his family did, they were sharp enough to tear through flesh and fur alike with ease.

The small wolf's fur bristled at the little man comment and he let out a low growl that was as dark as his fur. At the snap at his neck, he managed to jump away, but not before he was nicked. Kain's growl grew in volume and his neon eyes flashed slightly before the irises, whites, and pupils were all taken over by shadows so that they looked like black holes in his head.
His ears twitched slightly at hearing that he had one chance to let go. One chance or what? Instead of letting go, the small brute repositioned his hold and bit down harder before swiping up one paw to the other male's face, hoping to catch him with the sharp claws on the ends of his toes and leave some nice gashes on that slim black face of his.
From where he held onto the brute's tail, shadows escaped his mouth and started to curl their way up and over the brute's tail, starting to encase him in darkness. Seemed the shadow commanding brute was planning on trying to encase his opponent completely with his shadows. He had no idea what happened when he did that to others, he just knew they stopped fighting.

Ah, so he was going to ignore his warning? Well, that was his business as to why, and his problem that he would have to deal with now. Cruentus could feel the slithering shadows grow larger, the wisps that were spreading upward from his tail. For a moment the male wondered just why he was encasing him in shadows. If there was anything that the larger male wasn't afraid of, it was the dark. The shadowy brute pulled his head away, from the attack at his face, snatching the other's paw into his jaws before he could put it back on the ground.
With a grin, he bit down, preparing himself for the coppery taste of blood. Oh, he was so hungry. So very, very hungry. He could probably gnaw his arm off if he didn't struggle to get it back. The brute winced, having his tail bitten harder; but he wouldn't let go of this brute's paw. Shaking his head as violently as possible, he pushed and pulled on the only thing that he had. It was nearly impossible to see anything, not even what was in front of him; but the lupine himself would be his guiding light. Adrenaline pumped through Cruentus's veins, bubbling through his blood as soon as the possibility of a fight arose. Yanking the other wolf around by his paw, he pulled him sharply to the side, simultaneously pulled his tail away from the other's mouth. He wasn't sure how fullproof his grip would be, but if he slipped even a moment Cruent would be free.

The small pitch brute resisted the urge to let out a yelp when his paw was grabbed and brought up his free front paw to try and push the other off his captured foot.
When he was suddenly jerked to the side, his back paws, being the only ones holding him up, stumbled and staggered a bit, causing him to loose his footing and fall heavily to his side, his jaws loosing their hold of the others' tail. As quick as he fell though, he was back up on his two hind paws, his free fore-paw moving to claw and shove at Cruent's face again while he snapped his own head forward to try and lock his jaws on one of the brute's ears this time.

Finally, the boy stumbled. It was all that it took for Cruentus to free his tail, and from there the darkness would not spread like an infectious disease. His tail felt quite heavy, but with a few shakes it didn't matter anymore. Partially because no matter what happened to his tail the beast was almost positive that it would heal. The other part? Well, his dear friend was not done fighting yet. He would be a fool to take his eyes off of the actions of another for something as silly as his long fluffy tail.
This time, the attack to his face hit. The claws upon his cheek stung, and there were places that he knew that he would bleed; perhaps even gain a small bit of scarring. His head was smacked to the side, and Cruentus glowered upward at the little bastard. With his head low in defense after being clawed at, he acted quickly when the other went for his ear. Smoothly positioning himself to curve the front of his body just slightly, he made a grab for the shadow creature's neck. He couldn't quite reach his throat from this angle; but if he ripped away at the skin and perhaps even the muscle here, the bleeding - and maybe even the pain- should have been bad enough for this crazy little man to at least calm down.
If he didn't calm down; well Cruentus figured that he could always kill him and eat him for lunch.
How else would he pay for all of this lost energy?

The small wolf let out a yelp at the tearing at his neck and jerked back, still standing up on his hind legs, the paw that had been bitten as well as his neck both bleeding profusely. Time seemed to stop as he stood there like a statue, only the heaving of his chest showing he was alive. Shadows licked over his wounds as if they were trying to stitch them up, but the most he could even manage was to slow the flow of blood.
After what seemed like forever, but was only a few moments, the small brute fell back down to stand as normal as possible with a damaged paw. He glowered at the wolf in front of him, his fur still bristled but his eyes returning to their normal color. He curled his lip slightly in an annoyed snarl before turning to start limping off. Seemed the small brute grew bored of this now, not to mention that he was hungry now as well.
After a few limping steps he stopped and looked down at his damaged foot with an annoyed growl. How would he hunt for anything without the proper use of one paw? He bared his teeth slightly and let out a low growl, small things such as 'stupid' and 'had to bite the paw' being heard within his annoyed grumblings. He silenced himself though and sat on his haunches to start licking at his paw to try and sooth the ache there. What was he thinking? Turning his back on someone he attacked moments ago and beginning to tend to his wounded paw? Was he insane?

And finally, the prey stops ticking. Cruentus smirked, hiding his laughter from the world; but the satisfaction could still be seen in his gaze. Even without food in his system, he had not completely lost his touch. He would not count this as a true victory though; as his opponents was unseasoned, and more crazy than anything else. Still, who said that this fight was over? The beast swung the lower half of his tail, flicking a bit of blood; his face stung as well where his cheek had been pretty badly clawed. "Vat a strange thing you are. You don't expect that I vill finish this fight? You turn your back on the wolf with the upper talon?" The beast slunk over to the idiot that was muttering to himself. What a fool, why start a fight that you don't even try and finish?
He was finished with this lupine and his lunacy. The creature cast a final sneer at the other, not a shred of mercy for his new disability when it came to hunting. You get what you give, Cruentus hadn't started the fight, there was no reason for him to feel a shred of mercy on this wolf. "Vhatever. You no longer intrigue me." And with that he left him behind, continuing his trek onward. If he ran into this lupine again before finding food, he would eat him. If he didn't figure that, then he had no feelings for his own life and it didn't matter whether he died or not. "I veel no pity vor your paw. Someone... vill kill you off vor your insolence eventually. Be glad that tonight, it vas not me." The lupine said while walking off; and with that he was just out of ear shot... or he just didn't care enough to respond.
