A single, dainty, black paw darted into the water, trying to grab at a small object that a human must have dropped at some point somewhere. The object was a small silver coin, washed to a shine by the water it currently resided in. Of course, the shine had caught the attention of the small silver fox as he trotted back to his den with dinner in his jaws. That same dinner, which consisted of a pair of small rabbits, now rested upon the rock beside him as he attempted to fish out the small coin.
The little fox let out a dejected noise as he tried and failed yet again to scoop the coin from the watery depths. He huffed a little and sat back on his haunches, staring at the coin with his single working golden brown eye. He tilted his head a little and wrinkled his face into a look of concentration. It seemed the little coin was lodged into the sand at the bottom of the water. He crinkled his nose a little and flattened his ears. That meant he'd probably have to go in the water to dig it out. This revelation brought a whine to the creature's lips. He HATED water.
Kriten took a deep breath and glanced around before abandoning his meal to slip in the water in order to dig his precious shiny out of the sands that held it captive.

♠Having established his own nook in the north, Deuce had decided to wander, since the land seemed barely inhabited by members of his own kind. Having rested and hunted (though a family of mice wasn't particularly filling), he had set off to gain an idea of the lay of the land- and more importantly, to try to become acquainted with the behaviors of his neighbors. If anything, he hoped the wolves of this land weren't, to put it crudely, bat-shit crazy. Or creepy, for that matter. However, even if they were insane or ridiculously creepy, he had already declared that he and the pack he had newly formed were, as his motto stated, "Keepers of the past, observers of the present, guardians of the future." He said aloud as he thought. They would neatly keep the area from going off it's hinges, and simply record in detail, everything. It was a fresh start for the ex-prince, though at the moment he was only lord of his land, and not a soul more. He hoped it would change. He, after all, had great expectations.
♠The pleasant noise of tides greeted the gray brute's sensitive ears as he walked on, the uncomfortably open area of the plains giving way to the rocky shores of something that was entirely new to the brute. He, in his four year old life, had never seen such a large body of water. Sure, there were small brooks and one little pond in Fos, and the territory he had recently staked out had a portion of a huge river in it, this topped them all. Suddenly finding himself standing on the edge of a cliff, he backed up a few paces, before his normal, regal facade gave way to awe. He realized the look on his face, and his face heated in embarrassment. He looked quickly to the sides to see if anyone had seen his unguarded expression. Then, looking down, he decided to leap, as it wasn't too far down.
♠ He landed with a barely audible thud, in a soft, rough substance he had never seen before. "Wow." He murmured to himself, curiosity ruling his usually reasonable mind. He kneaded the ground a few times with his wide paws, enjoying the sheer softness of the material. With his supernatural hearing, he could hear the soft grinding of the individual little pieces of this wonder as he pressed down, and soon, out of irritation, he stopped. Focusing his attentions back on the water, he approached with caution, stopping at the water's edge. The cool water lapped at the edges of his fur-lined paws, drenching them. Lowering his head to sniff it, he smelled nothing out of normal. It was legit, clean water. Half disappointed and half relieved, he stepped back, finished with his investigating. It was then he froze. He had noticed the scent much earlier, but had been too enveloped in the wonders of this area to pay much mind to it. Now that it was undivided, his attention was pulled to the unmistakably strong musk that was similar, yet different than a wolf's.
♠Fox.
♠Not that it really scared him. Unless it was some sort of wolf sized abomination, he doubted it could harm him. In fact, it was probably more fearful than he was. Or, at least, he thought it would be. Who knew what could go on in a place he had never been too? For all he knew, there was some sort of odd little friendship between wolves and foxes here. Back home- no, not home. Back at Fos, the pack had made a point to eliminate threats to the survival of the pups, and often times Deuce himself had dirtied his paws with the blood of foxes and their litters, among other predators in their large territory. Looking up, he immediately sighted the dark colored tod. Or at least, he assumed it was male, if fox scents here were anything like he remembered from 'The Hunts'. He simply stood there, staring at the fox, who was concentrated on something in the water. A fish, perhaps?

After what seemed like forever the tiny fox hoped back up on dry land with a triumphant look on his face due to the small, shiny, metal object that was firmly clamped in his teeth. He had gained his prize! The little fox shook himself off before suddenly freezing. He turned his head slightly so that his good eye was locked upon the wolf. For a few moments, he stood there staring, completely motionless, save for the ruffle of his fur due to the sea breeze, but then, suddenly, he crouched down over the pair of rabbits that were still sitting where he left them and let out an odd little warning growl.
Kriten stood there over his kill, growling softly for a bit before suddenly scooping up his kill, dropping his coin in the process, and flitting off, his small frame soon vanishing into a little grass covered crevice in the rocks.
"Oh crap.....I dropped my shiny!" He thought as he sat down with in the crevice that happened to be his den, "I dun really wanna go out there again.....not with that big, scary wolf out there.....but my shiny......." He mentally whined before standing and poking his head out of the grasses and vines that hid his den to see if the wolf was still out there. Being the shiny hoarder he was, he hated leaving anything shiny, but his fear kept him from returning. He had heard stories of foxes that were killed mercilessly by the brutal wolves. His parents always warned him and his siblings to stay away from wolves.
But he wanted his shiny!
Oh what a dilemma the poor vulpine got himself in now. Brave the wolf and get his shiny or leave his shiny and continue to hide. What to do, what to do?

♠Hm. So the fox had noticed the wolf. As the fox retrieved whatever it was that was now in his mouth, he noticed Deuce, who had simply been standing there, waiting. After all, it wasn't like the fox was going to attack him, as far as he knew. The ex-prince's sensitive hearing picked up the soft sound of the musky creature's growling, and he debated for a moment. It was obvious that wolves and foxes didn't appreciate each other here, much like the situation in Fos. He wasn't really surprised when the tod bolted, disappearing into a hole that the much larger Deuce could never hope to fit in. The flash of something shiny on the ground near where the fox had disappeared caught the male's eye, and deciding the fox wasn't a threat,, he trotted towards the object.
♠He ignored the fox, who was still in his little hole in the rock. Lowering his gray head, he gave the object a curious sniff, before wrinkling his nose in disgust. It smelled very faintly of humans. Humans, while they weren't a threat to the wolves of Fos, were noisy, clumsy, and watched his old pack members with too much interest for the brute's liking. But a smaller gang of loners had once resided near Fos, and after killing a human who got too close, they were annihilated by the humans and taken away by an odd flying machine. He had only been a small weanling at the time, so he did not remember it as clearly as say, his sister might. So humans were to something not to be trifled with, and all were taught to proceed with caution and a little bit of fear. The coin also, however, smelled much more strongly of the fox, and Deuce was not inclined to touch the shiny object, for there was a few traces of saliva on it.
♠"Rather a mundane hobby you have, Fox." He deadpanned, casting a slightly contemptuous look in the direction where the fox had hidden. After all, he still had prejudice. Deuce had been raised in an environment where he was considered more important than most other wolves, and had been treated as such. Foxes, being smaller, were considered weaklings in his world, a place where it was truly the survival of the fittest. What had kept Deuce from being openly disdainful was his own recent humbling. Nothing kept you more down to earth than being stripped of your importance so that you went from a somebody to a nobody in a mere matter of a few words.

When the wolf got close to his shiny, Kriten's fur bristled and he darted out of his den, "My shiny!" He yipped, quickly darting over, snagging the coin, then darting away again, gently setting the coin by his front paws. He stared at the wolf through his one working eye and curled his lip, "What do you know you murdering brute." He snipped in an oddly high pitched voice for a male.
In his eyes, all wolves were the same. Stone cold murdering brutes. Seemed his parents had really ground that knowledge into him when he was a kit.
With a small, almost laughable snarl, the tiny fox scooped up his treasure before scurrying away and back into his den. He deposited the small coin on his pile of random shiny objects he had nicked before sitting down with his face pointed to the entrance of the den while he ate his dinner. He knew the brute wouldn't fit in his small den, but who knew what the wolf had in mind. His mother always told him that they were evil things that never gave up on trying to off his own kind. In Kriten's mind, he had to be careful.

Shu had been watching them silently from the shadows. For the most part, they seemed to be more interested in themselves than in noticing him.
He closed his eyes and took in a deep breath, causing the tag on his neck to catch the light. Some time ago, the brute had been badly injured and a small group of humans had taken him in. They had fastened a chord of leather around his neck. They had put a coin on it and tried to claim him, but he left when he was healed enough.
He opened to see the fox dart from his hole and back in again. The fox had a strange hobby. He smelled the other brute's scent from where he was. Shu wouldn't get into a fight unless he had no other option.
He went into the open, hating how the coin around his neck would shine with every other step that Shu took.
"Hello? Am I interrupting you two?" He tilted his head and sat on his haunches. "Is it alright if I have a drink?" He asked mostly to himself. He wasn't sure how either would respond, so he didn't let his guard down. He didn't worry about the fox, it was too small to kill him. He only had to worry about the other wolf. "My name is Shu, what is yours?"

♠Deuce made an expression akin to a human raising their eyebrow. The tod was, to say the least, entertaining the ex-prince. Though he was sure that the hiding fox wouldn't appreciate the fact that he was amusing the brute. "By all means, take it. I wouldnt have any use for such a thing." He chortled, his low and husky voice filling the air, yet it was not booming. Charisma, as he had learned the hard way, did wonders for you. He had been working on introducing a regal quality to his voice, since he already had a gait and way of carrying himself that was graceful. It was hard not to learn, since it had been practically beaten into him. Embarassments to the royal family of Fos weren't tolerated in their somewhat Spartan ways. But he was, technically, free of all of that. So why did he care how regal he was? Deuce didn't bother answering a question he already knew the answer too. His sharp eyes watched the fox's quick movements with ease. His expression returned to it's neutrality, which was something, he added to himself, that had also been beaten into him as a weanling.
♠As he stood up, preparing to leave, he caught the flash of something else that was shiny, and soon he snapped to attention, his senses flaring in a way that was almost painful. Since he usually tried to slowly return to full alert, he wasn't used to the suddenly bright and saturated scenery, he winced, the colors breifly giving his eyes a burning sensation. He could distinctly hear the thumping of his heart, amplified. The now much louder rushing of the waves, the crunch of the sand as someone approached. Deuce felt every single grain of sand pressed up against his paw, which was to be frank, quite uncomfortable. He could smell just about everything the newcomer's scent betrayed about him. Male. Great, just what he needed. Another bag of testosterone.
♠he staggered slightly, cursing under his breath. "Shit, I hate it when this happens..." he hissed, wincing. Though he had learned to have a sort of control over his extreme senses over the years, it still gave him a temporary migraine here and there. His excited senses calmed down soon enough, and as the stranger approached from behind, Deuce spoke calmly, stopping the irritation from seeping into his normally sultry voice. "Why Fox, I do believe we have another in our midst. he said, right before the other male spoke. "Shu, is it?I'm...Deuce." He said, turning around to face the other brute, his alluring dark orange eyes watching with a cool, carefully crafted indifference.

Upon hearing another come near and the wolf who had already been there speak aloud to him, Kriten poked his head out of his den and twitched his nose. His working eye roamed over the new wolf before stopping on that coin. One word made it's way through the fox's one track mind.
Shiny.
Of course, the little hoarder believed all shiny objects were his and his alone, so when he saw that coin around the wolf's neck, he believed that the wolf was stealing from him. He let out a small growling noise and started to creep out of his den, his working eye trained on that shiny object that hung from the brute's neck.
"Give me my shiny!" He demanded once he was fully out of his den, his fluffy black tail darting back and forth as he stared at the dangling coin, "My shiny......" He snarled as he crept closer to the duo of brutes. Such an odd creature this tiny brute was. I guess he was like the saying goes, Crazy like the fox.

He tilted his head and looked at the fox. "Small fox, Since you seem fascinated by the object around my neck, would you be ever so kind as to bite it off? it seems to be caught around my neck." He laid his head down. "If you try to kill me, then I will have to pin you down." He said in a calm tone. He really didn't take any notice of the other wolf at the moment. He was too preoccupied with the small little fox.
He didn't know what to else to do. The collar, as the humans called it, was too small for him and was a bit on the choking side. He put his ears back a bit. "I mean you no harm, I only seek to be rid of this collar." He did what humans would call a smile and tilted his head again to give the fox a more room for the fox to get a hold of the leather.
"Please fox. I request your assistance."

♠Deuce watched the fox and the other wolf, who had identified himself as Shu converse. To be honest, it was quite amusing, given the fact that the fox had proven himself to be a little touched in the head, and the wolf quite desperate to get the tight thing off of his neck. As he thought this, he let his eyes roam over the brute, giving the collar, which screamed human, a disdainful glare, an expression that had been born from a life as a royal. Though, he noted silently, the object no longer smelled of humans. Setting his orange gaze on the fox, he wondered if the fox would comply as he mentally congratulated the other brute for being somewhat intelligent. While it was a little risky to let a hostile creature such as the little tod get close to one of his specie's greatest weaknesses, it would be better than say, asking Deuce to do it. After all, the stranger could simply ward off any funny business from the fox the way one might brush off a fly.
♠"What an interesting situation." He monotoned out loud. He yawned, his long canines glinting in the bright light. Laying down, he looked much like a lazy cat basking in the sun, his back legs splayed casually to the side as his front half twisted so that he would have a better view while still affording him a small amount of protection should the male turn out to be of the same state of mind as the fox.

The little creature's nose twitched and he tentatively stepped forward a few paces before darting in and making quick work of the collar with his sharp little teeth then easily trotting away from the two wolves with his prize in his jaws.
The little fox wasn't stupid. Yes, he was obsessed with shiny objects and it could cause him problems sometimes but he knew better then to try anything stupid with two big brutes there that could easily crush his skull.
He trotted back into his tiny den and carefully deposited the coin, collar and all, on his shiny pile before kicking the remains of his meal from the neat little den then laying down with his head and front paws sticking out of the den as he warily watched the two wolves, his white tipped black tail twitching out behind him as he waited to see what would happen.
